god the trumpet player is shit.

Sep. 7, 2009 | 6:02 PM MH16 says:

I have to agree with loansindi here.

Sep. 7, 2009 | 6:03 PM Mich says:

I feel like being more constructive than loans down here ;)

Everyone seems to play along pretty nicely for being improvisation; but the trumpet player just seems to randomly press the buttons (or whatever they're called) on his trumpet. =/ It might have been better without him. Sorry dude, if you're reading this.

Really interesting stuff man. I'd have to say, the 3rd video is probably my favorite. Very psychedelic. Reminded me of my Pink Floyd days. :P

Question, was the trumpet player playing? I feel like he would just chime in now and again... Nothing really special on his part. hahah

Overall cool stuff man. You did awesome on the drums. I think you and the guitar guy should keep playing, and maybe bring in the trumpet player every-so-often. :P

Sep. 7, 2009 | 6:04 PM Cross666 says:

Awesome stuff! Truly inspiring (making my Jazzy stuff look like dogshit here D: )
Though I wish the brass were a bit stronger and more defining, I'm not really getting that take a solo and run with it feeling that the music is needing..

Sep. 7, 2009 | 6:12 PM Chronamut says:

its good but wtf is up with the trumpet player??

Sep. 7, 2009 | 6:27 PM nal1200 says:

Did you recruit the pitiful trumpet player from this song?

Sep. 7, 2009 | 6:28 PM SymbolCymbal responds:

thats funny my trumpet players name is tom as well

Sep. 7, 2009 | 6:30 PM TOEZ says:

Nice job.

Sep. 7, 2009 | 6:38 PM Kaizerwolf says:

Uh, well, the drummer was good, anyone who can do anything on a drumset is good. My only complaint was the trumpet player; didn't even sound halfway good. I've heard our elementary school's band play better than that.

Sep. 7, 2009 | 7:03 PM EmperorCharlemagne says:

Nice stuff, nice stuff!

In the songs, it seems your band jumps around a lot, with different styles and different ways of going about things... This is good, everyone likes variety... I would suggest that in your sons that are essentially jams, you have some sections of a 'chorus' that is more easily recognizable and more stable than the jam sections... Not knocking on the jam sections, I like them a whole lot... But in my eyes, somewhere to go back to allows the song to have a sense of substance about it. If you did have such sections, i couldn't tell. However, in some spots, he seemed rather out of tune.

The band is not too shabby... I though, the sound quality of the video doesn't really let me hear the trumpet player all to well, so I can't ascertain whether all these complaints are true or not. Must be my ears.

As to jam/improv... those are good, but you might want to write your songs with a solid backbone in place, rather than completely ad lib. Just allows things to grow from a controlled point, as opposed to just spontaneously, which can hurt a song. For example, instead of just ad libbing, write an actual part for trumpet to give your player something to work with... I think you can see that some people work better that way. When the jazz band I played in gave me a solo (and those were pitifully rare... I played piano, too), I didn't get too fancy, but I had a framework to work off of, and I benefited from that. I think your brass player can too.

I liked the first song on the third segment.

All in all, good stuff.

Sep. 7, 2009 | 7:06 PM YouriX says:

Well i have to agree with the others the trumpet has to go. like..... right now!

Sep. 7, 2009 | 7:44 PM Stupor says:

Well, apart from the obviously confused trumpet player, the music is pretty solid! At least in my opinion, the band manages to generally hold itself together (which, honestly, is something that many improv bands can't say about themselves). Which instrument are you playing, may I ask?

Sep. 7, 2009 | 7:46 PM SymbolCymbal responds:

im playing the drum kit

Sep. 7, 2009 | 7:47 PM Phoog says:

The trumper (lol) is just missing pazzaz, passion, enthusiasm.
It's all nice, but with a horribly horny (lol) noise layered on the top of it.
Gah. It's like a dog humping my leg.
I don't like it one bit.

Sep. 7, 2009 | 9:29 PM Syntrus says:

I'm a trend whore so I always post where the other regs post1 :D

Cool band the trumpet player should spin his trumpet around and play it the correct way....

nice drums do you have a higher end version of the drums I could fruity slice up.

Sep. 8, 2009 | 2:20 AM newgeneral says:

It's good, not a nice start to a band but I've got to agree with the rest. The trumpter player just sucks. Give him some tips, point him in the right direction. Make him practice more and he'll get the hang of it.

Sep. 8, 2009 | 7:12 AM SolusLunes says:

For the most part, fairly enjoyable. Liked the improv, but the trumpet player didn't seem to have his heart in it- tbh, I don't know. :p

Sep. 8, 2009 | 11:59 AM FlamingFirebolt says:

Lol nice band, however
who picked that trumpet player? Beethoven? jeez

Sep. 8, 2009 | 12:00 PM FlamingFirebolt says:

also everything was awesome but you need to get rid of the trumpet player

Sep. 8, 2009 | 4:51 PM ZStriefel says:

I liked it for the most part! the drums are freakn amazing! and from what i can make out of the bass it sounds pretty sweet (I'd like to hear a good recording of you guys!) but idk.. something about the trumpet urks me. everything else was great though!

Sep. 10, 2009 | 3:11 AM EchozAurora says:

Sweet jams man.

Minus the failhorn of course. Some people can improv well.. some can't. Maybe you could.. write stuff for the trumpet to play? Or hand him sheet music.

My personal suggestion is John Cage's 4'33". ;D

Sep. 10, 2009 | 7:36 AM SymbolCymbal responds:

HAHAHAHAAAAAA
but some of our jams are longer than 4:33 :(

Sep. 11, 2009 | 1:38 PM therealanimator says:

replace the trumpet player other than that you have a great sound.

Sep. 11, 2009 | 2:01 PM Ass-Crumb says:

Quite a failure of a trumpet player, and it's boring until about 3 minutes into the first video (I suppose you should allow time to get into the swing of things with improv though) so other than the failhorn you have quite the sound.

I applaud.

Sep. 11, 2009 | 2:14 PM D-Nightmare says:

Good hard work put to straightforward use. The trumpet makes for good musical appreciation.

Sep. 11, 2009 | 3:01 PM mariomusicmaker1 says:

I used to drum in a " band " that band was more of a let the guy with the money buy every thing, so i quit as every one was constantly mooching off me.
watch your ass, people get greedy :(

Good stuff, but the trumpet? wtf?

Sep. 11, 2009 | 5:46 PM D-Nightmare says:

One more thing: I've left a good endorsement behind on a BBS post .

Sep. 11, 2009 | 6:53 PM SymbolCymbal responds:

Sweet dude, thanks fer that and the compliments!
:)

Sep. 11, 2009 | 6:55 PM Bendt says:

I think you're doing great with your band, sounds good and you guys play well together.

Try to find someone who has a better quality with his camera and then start to make some clips of your band and post them on the interwebs.

On sites such as Youtube f.e., some people became quite famous because of that site.

I mean today, you have so much opportunities to become famous, compared to 20 years a go.
Also just focus on your music, maybe fix the trumpet guy (I'm not saying to dump him, I'm saying that he mustn't improvise, if that was what he was doing).

Sep. 12, 2009 | 3:23 PM Magik-Waffle says:

Which one are you?

It's interesting, especially the trumpet/guitar player. The bassist should be the one on trumpet, though (like me).

Sep. 13, 2009 | 4:14 AM SymbolCymbal responds:

I'm the silhouette behind the drum-set.

Sep. 14, 2009 | 12:47 PM H-A-X-O-R-Z says:

What genre is you band in general?

Nice name by the way...

Sep. 14, 2009 | 1:14 PM Kingbastard says:

Enjoyed listening man, the drums and the bass section are great, the other parts like the nasty synthy sound, not so nice:) Still, for a first show, excellent and it will only keep getting better n better, always nice to hear some improv material, in places it's really slick and great to listen to. You ever heard of a band called The Bays? you may enjoy checking out their stuff, all their material is totally improvised whenever they play, they only perform live, they never rehearse, they don't have a set-list, of course, some of it is hit n miss, but you can get some real gems in there:)

Sep. 17, 2009 | 12:50 PM SymbolCymbal responds:

lol ,my guitarist/synth player loves the bays.

Sep. 14, 2009 | 10:24 PM the-aenigma says:

From what I heard, I'm not sure if the trumpet player is really as bad as everyone says he is, or if the room you played in has really bad acoustics. If you have too many instruments being played in a tight space, one of them is always going to be overpowered and sound like crap if you can even hear it. Maybe it was just a bad camcorder recording? Anyways, I still think it was good and you have potential with your band.
